ALICE IS FINE

Alice has been living with debilitating pain, she doesn’t know the cause, and she can’t seem to find a doctor who will take her seriously…

Alice Is Fine is a film about one woman’s struggle to be heard as she grapples with gender bias in healthcare, and the deep frustration that comes from seeking help within a system predisposed to treat her pain as though it’s all in her head. What happens when we are forced to hold back our rage in an effort to be believed about our symptoms?

Alice Is Fine was shot in one whirlwind day in June 2024 and we just completed our hugely successful fundraising campaign, surpassing our goal. The film is now in post and preparing to hit the festival circuit shortly!

SAVE THE DATE

Bryn made her first foray into film producing with short film Save The Date. Winner of the ACTRA Toronto Queer Your Stories competition, Save the Date tells the story of a gay millennial who is forced to confront his complicated feelings about his (sort of) ex when he, quite reluctantly, finds himself invited to celebrate the engagement of the man he, accidentally, possibly, kind of, maybe, pushed out of his life.”

Set in the heart of downtown Toronto’s Queer neighbourhood, we focus on the intersection of body image and self worth, of Hallmark endings and the realities of queer relationships, of sexual expectations and life after love (after love after love…). Premiering at the Inside Out Film Festival, Save The Date was honoured to win the Emerging Canadian Artist Award in honour of Director Bria McLaughlin and was voted Best Short at Inside Out Ottawa.

Save The Date

Theatre Born Between is a Toronto-based theatre company, co-founded by Bryn Kennedy and John Wamsley, interested in creating work that focuses on bringing the inner emotional realities of the play and its characters to the surface – the seen and unseen. Our mission is to create a platform for diverse emerging artists from all communities to explore the boundaries of theatrical practice through a blending of styles such as movement, verbatim text and fantastical realism.

Theatre Born Between began with two workshop production, Vitals by Rosamund Small in the Paprika Festival and off my chest in the Dark Crop Festival. This was followed by two full scale productions, Vitals in the Fall of 2018 and new play Beneath the Bed by Gabe Golin in the 2019 Toronto Fringe Festival.
